Vincent Matthews Art
Vincent is on the council of The Society Of Graphic Fine Art - the drawing society and the only national one in the UK. His work is largely drawing based and he mostly works from life or from his plein-air (outdoor) sketches; interpreting what he sees with marks, line, space and also using his memory of the experiences of the places that he draws for his finished pieces. The media that he mostly uses are ink, pencil, watercolour and etching with aquatint and engraving. Inspirations for his work are places such as Dungeness and the area around Rye (near where he is based), including the landscape, old and derelict buildings, old shacks and the occasional still life. All in his own style of focusing on the subject matter that he is interested in and leaving the
rest for the viewers imagination. He has taken part in many professional art exhibitions, including in other parts of the country over the years. As well as being an active full member of the SGFA, Vincent is also part of the Pure Arts Group team, using his professional interior architectural background in planning and putting up their exhibitions and being a co-host of their professional art club in nearby Kent. As well as the SGFA and the Pure Arts Group, Vincent is part of the Tenterden Artists, who organise and put up a local exhibition every year for selected contemporary artists.
