On the Horizon
The horizon offers infinite possibility - it offers hope.
People see different things when they look toward the horizon.
We all live under the same sky, but we don't all have the same horizon.
Selected artists have been invited to show artwork that responds to the notion of possibility, difference and hope.

SGFA Exhibition
MANDELL’S GALLERY IS LOCATED IN THE BEAUTIFUL HISTORIC ELM HILL, NEAR NORWICH CATHEDRAL.
The gallery was opened in the 1960’s, originally specialising in the Norwich School of Painters such as Crome and Cotman. The gallery now has a diverse collection of Traditional and Contemporary Fine Art
During October the gallery is hosting an exhibition featuring works by 29 members of The Society of Graphic Fine Art. The Society represents the very best of contemporary drawing in the country and promotes drawing as a fundamental skill, in both traditional and contemporary work, in any medium bringing a huge variety to the show. The society has a long history and celebrated its 100 years in 2019.
‘Drawing is a way of seeing. When we draw something we really see it, and that is its great value. When we draw something we reveal it’s truth to all who look at our drawing. There is no substitute for this. Using a camera is a different process, valuable maybe, but different.’
Prof. Ken Howard OBE RA Hon SGFA (Taken from his forward in the SGFA Centenary Book ‘One Hundred Years- Society of Graphic Fine Art)
Always moving forward with new imagery and techniques, SGFA members art work is much sought after and has won many awards both nationally and internationally. Taking part in residencies, community arts projects, giving lectures and tuition, illustrating books, theatre design, painting murals, these artists have much to contribute, their imagery always rooted in drawing.
Vincent is exhibiting 3 works as part of this prestigious exhibition; ‘Abandoned’, 'Bin Lids’ and ’Tree Tops’
70th Anniversary RSA Summer Show
The Rye Society of Artists is an artist led society that has been holding an annual summer show in Rye since the 1950’s. For the past 5 years the show has been held at the Dance Hall on Conduit Hill.
For this 70th anniversary show the selection is smaller than past years, but still offers “many fabulous delights” for visitors to enjoy and buy.
The Rye Arts Club was originally formed in the early 1920s based at Lamb House, with Henry James the writer listed as an early president. Between the wars the club had a tantalising roll-call of members including Augustus John, Dame Laura Knight and Edward Burra, even though Burra described Rye, none too flatteringly, as ‘Tinkerbell Town’.
After the Second World War there was an influx of artists to Rye and in1951 a visionary and idealistic new group of eight artists appeared in Rye and launched their own modern movement (RX8) which was mirrored in the opening of the Festival of Britain in the same year. In 1952, RX8 merged with a newer group which included Ken Townsend and Wally Cole and the Rye Society of Artists was born.
